Smart Eye and Sightic join forces to create the global leader in driver monitoring and impairment detection — accelerating real-time detection of alcohol and drug impairment

Seven District portfolio company Sightic has entered into an agreement to join forces with Smart Eye, marking the next chapter in Sightic’s journey. The transaction brings together two highly complementary organizations to accelerate global commercialization and category leadership within automotive, while also advancing and scaling Sightic’s broader portfolio of solutions for real-time detection of alcohol and drug impairment for industries and authorities.

Through the transaction, Sightic’s Automotive business will be integrated into Smart Eye, forming the global market leader in driver monitoring systems (DMS) and driving-under-the-influence (DUI) solutions. The combination unites Smart Eye’s established OEM and Tier-1 footprint, market-leading DMS technology, emerging DUI solutions, and scale with Sightic’s cutting-edge proprietary datasets, algorithms, and strong position in DUI detection.

From innovation to global scale

Sightic was founded with a clear ambition: to improve road safety by enabling reliable, software-based detection of driver impairment as well as a broader set of solutions for real-time detection of alcohol and drug impairment for industries and authorities. Over the years, the company has built world-leading technology, including the world’s largest proprietary dataset for training and validating DUI algorithms, and established strong momentum with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers globally.

“Looking back at the journey, we are incredibly proud of what the team has built — from early research, data collection, and product development to becoming a recognized international leader in real-time detection of alcohol and drug impairment,” say Jenny Johansson and Stefanie Najafi, co-founders of Sightic.

“Seven District has been fundamental throughout this journey, supporting us with far more than capital — through hands-on, active ownership, strategic guidance, operational support, and long-term conviction. Joining forces with Smart Eye is a natural next step to take our technology to the global market at scale, in a significantly accelerated way.”

A strategic step in Sightic’s commercialization

For Seven District, the transaction represents the realization of a long-term strategy: pairing deep technology innovation with an industrial platform that can accelerate the scaling of it globally.

“This transaction is not an exit in the traditional sense — it is a continuation of the journey,” says Anders Jacobson, co-founder of Seven District and Chairman of Sightic since Seven District’s first investment in 2021.
“By integrating Sightic into Smart Eye, we accelerate commercialization dramatically while remaining invested in the long-term growth potential of the combined group. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and strongly believe in the combined business’ future as the global leader in this field.”

Importantly, the transaction is completed through payment in kind, meaning Seven District becomes a significant shareholder in Smart Eye and remains closely aligned with the future value creation of the combined company.

Creating the global category leader

From Smart Eye’s perspective, the combination further strengthens its leadership position at a time when regulation and safety requirements are accelerating globally.

“Sightic is world-leading in terms of datasets, data collection methodologies, and algorithm maturity with regard to minimizing false positive signals in driver impairment detection,” says Martin Krantz, Founder and CEO of Smart Eye.
“Together, we can develop our target product faster and more cost-efficiently, thereby saving more lives. 2026 has started strongly, and when we look back in a few years, we will likely see it as the year when the fight against impaired driving reached a turning point.”

A shared vision for safer mobility

As global regulations such as Euro NCAP, IIHS, and NHTSA continue to raise the bar for driver monitoring and impairment detection, the combined Smart Eye–Sightic offering addresses one of the most critical challenges in modern mobility: reducing accidents and saving lives.

For Seven District, this merger exemplifies our investment philosophy — supporting entrepreneurial teams in building category-leading companies, and staying invested as those companies evolve into global leaders.
